Help Eugene Find Safety

First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to read this.
I am working with Eugene on this.
If you have any follow up questions, please feel free to message me and/or Eugene at any time.
Again, thank you, thank you, thank you.

In episode 364 (03/16/2021), in regards to the LGBTQIA+ situation in Ghana, Eugene said -
“There’s a lot of ignorance and the discussions around queer people are very very toxic… It’s very hard. You lose your family, you lose everything. Almost no one is out… Constantly in danger… [Danger of] violence, not being hired for jobs... People are wrong. They [LGBTQIA+ Community] just want to be respected in a humane way…”

Unfortunately, the situation has gotten worse.
Ghana's parliament is set to debate a draft bill which seeks to introduce some of the harshest anti-LGBT laws on the continent.
These include prison sentences and so-called “conversion therapy”.
Eugene’s recently updated me and said, “There is a terrible anti-gay bill being passed in Ghana which will send anyone who is gay or even suspected to be gay to years in prison. Obviously, this has panicked me for close to three months now and I have been looking to relocate. I’m so tired of this fight to just live a life without fear.”

Eugene is planning on relocating to any country where it is legally safe to be LGBTQIA+.

So, this brings us to this GoFundMe.
Below will explain what the funds will go towards.
Your contribution will go a long way and help with Eugene’s safety.
If you are able to donate whatever amount, please do so and please know that this makes a difference and we appreciate you and your kind gesture.

If you cannot contribute anything at this time, that's totally okay.
If you can share this GoFundMe link, we would appreciate any kind of support.
Any links or recommendations to resources for LGBTQIA+ asylum, LGBTQIA+ charities or immigration legal aid to gay friendly countries are also welcome.
Again, thank you for taking the time to read this.
If you have any follow up questions about anything, please let us know.
Our contact information is below.

Below is a breakdown of the amount Eugene estimates might be needed.

While these amounts are estimates, please know that all proceeds will go towards assisting Eugene physically enter a safe country, get legal help, and then stay in that country as an asylum.

Flights - $1,700.00
Visa Costs - $300.00
Meals, Shelter, Legal fees and Proof of funds* - $8,000.00
**Most embassies require proof of funds of a certain amount before approving visa applications

Right now, the plan is:
1. Apply for a visa
2. If the visa gets approved, purchase a plane ticket
3. Currently, no country processes refugee requests when the person applying for asylum is not in that country. Eugene is researching his options for which countries will help.
4. Hire an immigration lawyer to help file for asylum. The asylum process involves hearing and interviews. Based on research, this could take around 6 months.
5. Stay in that country as a refugee

P.S. Any resources or information about LGBTQIA+ asylum in countries that offer such protections to queer foreigners can be sent to me or Eugene.
