My name is Maya Alleruzzo and I am writing this for my friend and colleague, Khalid Mohammed, who I have worked with since 2007. Khalid is in need of heart surgery, one that is not safe to do in his home country of Iraq. If untreated, he is at risk for congestive heart failure.
He arrived in Lebanon for treatment last month, but preoperative tests indicated a more extensive surgery as well as an additional procedure were needed. We have so far received generous donations from across the globe, but now more funding is needed to schedule the surgery.
Khalid is a loving father, husband, and amazing friend and colleague. He has been the bedrock of AP’s operation in Iraq since the US-led invasion, now serving as the Chief Photographer for Iraq.
At this critical time, a donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated in helping our beloved friend and colleague.
As of now, the beneficiary for this campaign is me - I have been withdrawing the funds and bringing them to Khalid due to banking restrictions in Lebanon but am working to find a more direct route.
