Hi everyone, it’s Coach Dan.

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance we’ve shared pool time together — maybe it was your child’s first swim lesson, a team practice at sunrise, or a championship meet where I was cheering you on from the deck. Teaching and coaching have been the heart of my life, and over the years I’ve had the joy of helping hundreds of kids, including those from underprivileged families, learn to swim and discover their confidence in the water.

I’ve always been more comfortable helping others than asking for help, but right now I need some help. About ten months ago, I underwent shoulder replacement surgery which was complicated by my having COVID. The combination of surgery and COVID precipitated significant heart, lung and kidney issues. The recovery has been very difficult. I’ve been unable to work for almost a year now, and while I’m slowly making progress, I still have a long way to go before I can get back to teaching full-time.

Fortunately, I do have Medicare, but it doesn’t cover all of my medical and rehabilitation expenses. Between the surgery, therapy, medications, and the months of lost income, things have gotten very tight. I’m doing everything I can to get back on my feet, but the financial strain has become overwhelming. I am hoping to raise $20,000, which will greatly help me through this recovery time and get back to teaching swimming.
