My poor husband, David, has been to hell and back. If the two cancers (Lymphoma & Leukemia) were not bad enough he is now living with the life altering side effects of a bone marrow transplant. Graft vs. Host Disease is his new donor DNA rewriting his old DNA and it is causing problem after problem. We can buy eye drops for his eyes, the tear ducts had to be cauterized to stop the constant eye infections. He has oxygen tanks to help him breathe, his lungs are scarred from constant battles with pneumonia. He has incredible doctors that are helping him in every way they can.
Unfortunately dentistry is not covered the same way medical is here in Canada. The Graft vs Host is destroying his teeth. Food that is taken for granted like chips or cookies are chipping his teeth. His mouth hurts so much his diet now consists of mostly liquids and he speaks with a lisp because one of the chips is very sharp and cutting his tongue. We would bring him to the dental collage but because of his health history we need a specialist, which costs extra money.
His specialist has recommended a mixture of implants and bridges which can conservatively cost $8,000 to $10,000. Financially we are doing ok but he has been on disability for the past four years so something like this is completely out of our reach.
Internet, we need your help.
Please help my husband eat regular foods again.
Please help fix something that is an integral part of life.
Please help give him hope that if this can be fixed maybe the rest of him will recover too.
xoxo
