Myra Sargeant is a retired Pediatric Intensive Care Unit nurse. She is married to Mark Sargeant and the mother of five boys; Three by birth, John, Ryan, and Ross Kloosterhuis, and two through marriage, Clark and Ryan Sargeant. Seven years ago, Myra was diagnosised with ovarian cancer. She immediately underwent surgery, and then endured nine rounds of debilitating chemotherapy treatments over the next several years.
Recently, Myra started to experience a significant complication; One of the tumors began weeping fluid which collected in the space around her lungs. This caused her to have difficulty breathing. Doctors intitally drained two liters of fluid from her chest, but the fluid quickly returned. On February 12, she began another six-month round of chemotherapy in an effort to arrest the fluid build-up, but so far there has been little progress.
Last week, Myra flew out to Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, OK in the hopes of finding a treatment regimen that will augment her current therapy in a way that will provide meaningful relief. Her experience there was very positive, and she has confidence in the experts who are developing her new plan of care. Unfortunately, Myra's insurance will not pay for certain expenses and dignostics that the doctors are reccommending. For example, genomic testing alone will cost $10,500. There are also significant costs associated with travel and treatment out of state.
Those of us who have been following Myra's illness closely believe that this new treatment regimen represents her best chance at having a long and happy life. After taking a careful accounting, we have determined that her out-of-pocket costs between now and September will be roughly $22,850. Please donate any amount that you can for her medical bills and therapy expenses. Also, please share this campaign with your social circle. Most importantly, please pray for Myra!
Thank you all so very much for your love and support of Myra and her husband Mark. I know she would appreciate an encouraging message. Maybe a well wish or a favorite memory you shared with her.
May God Richly Bless You and Your Family,
Monica and Clark
