"The 2nd Lick" Cancer Music Fest
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
I wanted to let you know about a truly fantastic organization that I’m helping to raise funds for. The organization is called Lick Breast Cancer, and they are right in the middle of their 2nd year of fundraising.
The group had its inaugural Ice Cream/BBQ/Music Fest last fall in Endicott, NY – where I grew up. The 2nd event will be held on September 12th of this year. All the details for that event can be found on their website, www.lickbc.com
This endeavor was created by my former classmate, Jack Kalb, in honor of his sister Karen. I’ve literally known these people since I was 9 years old, and I grew up with them. They are great people, doing an amazing thing. Here are some of Jack’s own words on why he began the drive:
“…..Approximately 4 years ago, my beautiful sister, Karen- a wife and mother of 2- was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time, this diagnosis devastated our whole family. My sister is such a sweet, kind, non-confrontational woman. The thought of her having to fight such an evil enemy was terrifying! The battle began and we all started to see a strength we didn't know existed in her. She faced the horrible radiation/ chemo treatments, and the physical illness that they cause- including the loss of her beautiful hair. But still she inspired everyone around her. On Facebook we started a prayer page that just exploded! Before we knew it, there were hundreds of people from all over the world praying and sending thoughts and gifts. It was so uplifting! A few long and difficult months later, she had won her battle! No cancer was found in her body! THIS season of Karen's life is what inspired this event...”
Now, there’s certainly not much I could add to that, except for perhaps to explain what the Lick Breast Cancer organization actually raises money FOR! Every cent that they receive goes directly to a non-profit group called Traci’s Hope (www.tracishope.com). From their website:
“…Traci's Hope is a not-for-profit fund to help people who are going through breast cancer in the counties of Broome, Bradford, Susquehanna, and Tioga. They pay for many different services that insurance companies won’t. Sometimes it is gas cards, or day care. Sometimes it is house cleaning, or mortgage payments. While fighting this disease, the needs can be endless, and nobody should have to do it alone….”
Personally, I first learned about the Lick Breast Cancer movement last year on social media. I was absolutely moved by the passionate outpouring of love, spirit, and generosity that took place, and I wanted to get involved.
Here are just a few of the great reasons to click on the 'Donate Now' button immediately.
1. These are wonderfully motivated people, doing a selfless and passionate service. They have truly earned the right to ask for our help.
2. We’ve all lost people close to us to cancer, and it is absolutely incumbent on us to try to help others dealing with this awful disease.
3. The 4 counties where the funds are deployed have struggled economically for decades. Previously large employers moved out of the area, and it has become a very tough area financially speaking. That unfortunately also makes it much more difficult for folks to raise money for any cause there, much less one this important!
I could go on, but cancer needs no further explanation. What's needed is money for treatment and research to destroy it, and to help those who need it the most.
Unlike many charities that have high overhead, everything here goes right to Traci’s Hope. GoFundMe of course takes a small percentage for their service, but even after that over 90% of your donation will go straight to where it’s so desperately needed.
I will match the first $300 in donations that we can collect here. Please donate to the best of your ability, as it is of course well appreciated and so needed.
If you’re interested in doing another matching-type donation as well, please drop me a note. That would be tremendous as we could really compound our efforts that way. Please also let me know if you have any questions about anything.
Finally, thank you very much for anything you can do here. These are wonderful people spending countless hours to help those in need. They deserve our support!
