Brian Burns' Medical Fund

Meet Brian Burns. He never meets a stranger.

Brian Burns is a fun and adventurous man who loves to hike deep into the woods and camp. This past July weekend, his passion for the deep woods experience led him and three other men on a hiking/camping trip at White Rock Mountain in Arkansas.

The small group hiked several miles deep into the woods and finally decided on a good place to break camp.

After a day of hiking in the July heat, the guys enjoyed some time cooling off in the mountain stream.

Around 8:30 pm before the light of day faded, a waterfall was inviting the challenge of a thrill.  Accepting the challenge, Brian attached his Go-Pro camera and took a leap over the waterfall.

When he landed, his leg hit the ground and the bone broke. He was in excruciating pain, unable to walk, and required emergency assistance.  After fashioning a pair of crutches out of some branches(using his socks for padding), his brother James left the camp to get help. The two friends who were in the group stayed with Brian while James ran the 5 mile trek up the densely wooded mountain to the civilian camping area to get help.  He located a Park Ranger who then called a Search and Rescue team to retrieve Brian from the woods.
Around 4:30am, when the rescue team got near the place of the accident, they were unable to go all the way to him. So Brian had to crawl on his belly up the 3/4 mile ravine to where the S&R team had a stretcher waiting for him.
For 4 treacherous hours they carried him on the five-mile hike up the dark mountain.  Around 8:00am, they emerged from the woods to where an ambulance was waiting to transport Brian to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith. He arrived at Mercy as a trauma patient and recieved excellent care. The ER doctor took X-rays and put a temporary cast on his swollen leg. When he was in stable condition he was released with instructions to find an Orthopedic Surgeon to operate on the broken bone after the swelling has subsided. The group then began the 2-hour trip back to Inola, Oklahoma where Brian lives with his wife Crystal, and their two small children.

Brian is the sole provider for his family and will be out of work for the next two months. Crystal is currently seeking employment to help but even if she is hired somewhere, whatever money she earns will barely cover their living expenses such as food, housing, and utilities.
Because of the condition of the broken bone, it will require surgery to mend. They have no insurance and are in dire need of financial help to secure an Orthopedic Surgeon to repair the break and issue recovery treatment.
Please, find it in your heart to donate to this fund which will be used to help pay for Brian's medical care and whatever physical therapy follows. No amount donated will be too small, and every dollar will be greatly appreciated. God bless you all.

Thank you in advance.

This page will be updated periodically to report on the progress of Brian's recovery.
