Abbie Drake's Medical Fund
In 2014 Abbie Drake was your average teenager living in Plainview, TX. She was half way through high school, with her sights setting on the possibility of pursuing studies as a music therapist in college. She was learning to drive and sang in a local choir. She has a kind and gentle spirit and is good with young children. She began to take dual-credit classes at Wayland Baptist University.
Then the dizzy and fainting spells began. They would hit out of nowhere, making it unsafe for her to be ever left alone.
Nausea, vomiting, headaches, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and vision changes followed. The doctors recommended changes to her diet (already gluten and caesin free ) with no success.
Balance problems, vertigo, aphasia (speech disturbances), memory issues, panic attacks, seizures, hot and cold flashes, chest pain, and sudden, wild swings in her blood pressure were increasingly present. One moment she might be able to walk and the next she would lose the ability completely. Doctors have diagnosed her with Dysautonomia with the possibility to Chiari Malformation, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Orthostatic Hypertension, and Adrenal Fatigue. Abbie had surgery in June 2015 to repair discs in her neck that appeared successful at first, but has not helped alleviate any of her issues.
The medical bills facing the Drake family are staggering. Already they are working multiple jobs to provide for their family and are taking time off work to care of Abbie and transport her to and from doctors' appointments in Lubbock and Amarillo. They are in need of skilled nursing care around the clock. Their car just died and they are without the means to transport Abbie to doctors' appointments.
Additionally, Abbie needs to be seen by doctors who specialize in Chiari Malformation and Dysautonomia. They have applied to be seen at The Wisconsin Chiari Center at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one of the best centers in the country for dealing with a case of this complexity. The Drakes are in need of funds to fly to Wisconsin, car rental, hotel, food, and the medical costs of testing when they are able to obtain an appointment at this facility.
Please prayerfully consider financially supporting this dear family in their fight against this disease.
