In most occasions, you will almost never find my mother at a loss for words, but in this case it feels as if everything is weighing on her mind, trying to keep it together as to not worry her kids with the thought of the ugly truth being Chemotherapy was unsuccessful for her and she may leave us before her grandkids could even remember her, without seeing her own kids grow and mature, and without the ability to just be there to watch her family grow into more. In April, my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and although she has been fighting a number of auto-immune diseases and just endured a surgery early this year for Myasthenia Gravis. The doctors said Cancer was in her future not just because her other health issues and rare blood disorder, but because of her genetics as well. She has been Blessed by amazing people in her life that have tried to donate blood, stem cells, and bone marrow. I have so much to be Thankful for, but the one thing my family needs the most is to help her continue this fight. Insurance only covers so much and her insurance does not cover treatments that are in the Clinical trial stage such as Stem Cell Research trials. It's painful thinking she has to put herself into more pain, stress, and tears trying her best to make it just a few more years. All these hardships she's faced just to have one more day to see her grandkids, just to be told she can't go further because she doesn't have the money. All the surgeries, medications, infusions, just to find out this was just not working and that the only thing that could possibly save her, she can't do because clinical trials aren't covered by insurance. She's due to have Stem Cell Transplant through Kaiser Foundation @ City of Hope and has opted to try using her own stem cells with the hopes it takes because it has been so difficult finding cell matches for her because of her Blood disorder Factor V. The procedure with your own cells costs $648,000 alone. She has been surrounded with wonderful friends and family who have made personal donations. She has also been Blessed with a total of 3 medical grants, thanks to the help of Cheryl and Rene who have worked diligently to get approval for her and now has a balance due of $5000 for her treatment. I am thankful beyond words for any donation that will help my mother to receive this stem cell treatment. Please help my mother gain a few more years to be with us.
