Mikayla's: Congress of Future Medical Leaders

Hi,‌ ‌I'm Mikayla Buchanan, a junior at Arrowhead Park Early College High School/Medical Academy. Throughout the two years in which I have been in high school, I have been a part of multiple clubs that involve a scientific or medical aspect. ‌Two of the clubs with scientific aspects are: HOSA Future Health Professions and Science Olympiad. Part of both of these clubs were competitions where I placed in every category I participated. ‌Participating in these clubs and maintaining a high GPA has allowed me the opportunity to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders at Harvard with many other gifted high schoolers.

The opportunity to attend the congress is important to me because at the congress I will be able to receive advice from Ivy League College professors, Nobel Prize winners, doctors, and other notable individuals‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌medical‌ ‌field. ‌‌‌During this conference, I will be able to watch live surgery which will have a live Q&A session with the surgeon leading‌‌ ‌‌the‌‌ ‌‌case. ‌I am especially interested in this since I plan to pursue a career in the medical field, specifically veterinary ‌medicine. ‌Attending this congress would provide me with the opportunity to make contacts with these important people, which is always beneficial.

Funds raised through this will go towards paying for the tuition for the congress. The money paid is the tuition for everything that we will be doing. ‌Harvard‌ ‌requires‌ ‌q tuition fee since we will be offered college credit. It will also compensate all of the speakers for their time and provide any materials we may be required to complete as part of the program.
