The photo in this fundraiser is me, Jennifer Ju. I am a teacher in Vancouver, BC.

For a little while now, I've known someone really close to my sister, who has Stage 4 cancer. It's been really hard because this person does not want to disclose this to the public - in particular, because she has two children - one who is 6 and the other, 1.

For the past 5 months or so, this person has been completing trial medicine after trial medicine in hopes to shrink her tumours, which has spread throughout her body. She would fly to Toronto for a couple days, sometimes weeks at a time and come back to Vancouver to spend 1 - 2 days with her kids.

At first, we were relieved as one of the medications seemed to be working. Her tumours were starting to decrease in size. However, just a few weeks ago, we received news that this medication stopped working.

She is disheartened because that was the last medication made available to her in Canada.

Today, I am writing this because we love her and even though we want to honour her wishes to not go public, we refuse to give up. Time is also of the essence.

This person has the opportunity to seek alternative medications, albeit she has to go the private route and likely in a different country. As you can imagine, the cost is something hardly any families can afford, especially those with young children.

I ask you to please open up your hearts and help us give this person a chance to live.

I'm sorry that we cannot give you more information in hopes to honour this person's wishes. She is completely unaware that I am making this ask but my sister and I both know this is necessary.
