Finn’s dental surgery

Donation protected
Hi my name is Barbara and at the suggestion of some people that I respect very highly I’m starting this fundraiser to help pay for my rescue dog Finn’s dental surgery.

Finn is a sweet and loving boy we have had since 2024. Rescued off the streets of Bosnia by Second Chance, he was brought to the UK where he is the most outstanding and spoiled member of our family.

When we got Finn his teeth were ground way down probably from chewing rocks to stave off hunger, however they were fine and did not bother him at all. Despite his generally good nature, Finn does not like being examined and will not let you anywhere near his mouth, so recently when he started eating a lot more gingerly and rejected bones and his kibble I managed to get a look in his mouth and what I found horrified me.

The photos attached show the damage to his gums and his front teeth all of which will probably need to be removed. I’ve spoken to my vet and received an estimate of £1374.88 which I do not have because my husband unfortunately was laid off from his job approximately seven weeks ago and we are struggling hard. Finn’s insurance on which we have a dental booster, will not cover the surgery because despite keeping up with our premiums and his health we missed the 12 month cut-off for a dental check by a month because of my husband‘s layoff and both of us being ill for a period lasting more than a month.

EDIT:
We saw the visiting dental specialist tonight (May 6) She managed to examine Finn and her face dropped. He needs to be referred to the specialist dental centre for general anaesthesia and a full mouth xray. She had said that if it shows the roots are firm we will have to extract in stages so as not to keep him under for more than 2 hours at a time. However if they’re rotted then they can do it all at once. She said from the look of his teeth it is likely that more than 90% of his teeth need to come out… and we are likely looking at 3k or more. BUT we won’t know for certain until the X-rays and she ensured me that the dental centre will give me a full itemised breakdown of costs but this is what we are looking at.

I know it is no one‘s responsibility but mine to ensure Finn‘s health but I’m wondering if anyone could possibly help in anyway to offset the cost so that he doesn’t have to suffer and we can get him the dental surgery he will need.

He’s a sweet wonderful boy and I’m sure that he would appreciate it very much as would I. If you are unable to help, please share so that someone might. I don’t want my baby boy to be in pain.

thank you so much for listening xx
