Gender-Affirming Surgery

Dear Friends and Community, I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing today to ask for your support as I navigate my continued journey towards living authentically: gender-affirming surgery. I want to begin by acknowledging the privileges I have—supportive friends and family, access to healthcare, a stable living situation, and a job. These are gifts not everyone has, and I don't take them for granted. Yet, even with these privileges, our flawed healthcare system has created significant financial barriers that make this essential care so difficult to obtain. Despite my best efforts, my insurance doesn’t cover the gender-affirming procedures I need. The patchwork nature of insurance coverage in the U.S. means that while some aspects of my care are partially or fully covered, many others are not. Changes to my insurance next year will reduce the coverage I currently have, further complicating my access to necessary care. I’m asking for your help to bridge this gap. Your support will directly contribute to the cost of my surgery, which is critical for my mental and physical well-being. This is not an easy ask for me to make, especially knowing how many needs exist in our local community and beyond.
