My nephew was a good kid. 13 years of age and an only child. Happy to make you happy. Happy when you spent quality time with him. Even if you're just talking about ants on a hot day. Even when you're in the back yard of his apartment complex catching frogs and fish for his turtle tank. Even when you're teaching him how to shoot a basketball for the first time in your backyard with two big dogs running around him. He always wanted his hair to grow in a big afro but i always cut it off. He asked for his dad every now and then but not when i was around. I showed him things that a single mom couldn't. I told him every morning after dropping him off in elementary school that he was going to have a good day and said that he was going to be the smartest person in class. He smiled and said yes. Got out of my car with a long back pack full of snacks and books. He just wanted people to like him. Yesterday he gave up. Kids were bullying him at school. Called him broke so he took money to school to show other kids that he wasn't. He was yanked by two girls by his back pack, slammed to the ground, and kicked in the stomach. Threw his shoes and and bag in the trash. Slapped in class while being recorded on snap chat. Jumped outside of the classroom while being called weak. One day when he defended himself the principal suspended him and called it retaliation. Had to be escorted around school, because he felt threatened. Once one kid does it more kids join in. Yesterday he had enough........ He took his life and left a note. Gave his mom the money back under her car's seat. He was almost with me after graduation next week.
