Misha needs your help to get through cancer treatments! They have endometrial cancer, which is cancer in their uterus, and are going to have a total hysterectomy on February 20th, followed potentially by radiation. Misha is going to need two months off from her part time job and isn’t able to work the additional contract work and other gigs she normally would from now until a few months after surgery.
Misha's diagnosis came after more than a year of almost non stop bleeding and other cancer symptoms. This is on top of Misha's fibromyalgia and other chronic illnesses. They are so exhausted. Misha is grieving, at 31 years old, the loss of their ability to carry pregnancies. They have to rest and recover, and because they live paycheck to paycheck without savings, they really need your help.
Many of you know Misha as a community organizer, an herbalist, and a distributor of free plan b. You might know her for her work on reparations in their community, and with Showing Up for Racial Justice and Inspire Justice. She is also someone who supports her community and shares resources, love, knowledge, and care. Misha is committed to anti-racist, anti-capitalist, anti-fascist mutual aid networks. As a working class/class-complicated queer femme, they don't have savings, do have debt to keep up with, and usually work several part time jobs.
The money will go to make up for missed pay, easy food and help with chores, equipment to help with accessibility. It will also make it possible for their partner Jenny Mae, a high school teacher, to take some time off work in the beginning of treatment (because they are not married, Jenny Mae only qualifies for unpaid leave). It will cover three months of heating oil so that they don't have to worry about heat and hot water during this time. Misha also needs continued care and complementary treatments to reduce the possibility of recurrence and build their strength and energy up for the months after treatments.
If you’re able to, please donate, and in any case, share this far! We are so grateful!
[Note from Jenny Mae: In the time I've known Misha, my understanding of what support is and how people show up for each other has expanded and continues to grow. Every day with Misha is a lesson. I learn to listen more deeply, to ask better questions, to lift others up. I've watched the ways Misha holds and nourishes people and community, and I'm constantly in awe of Misha's daily grind, the amount and degree of her work. I want more than anything for Misha to have permission and resources to rest as she heals, mourns, and rebuilds. I'm so grateful for the support we've already received and believe so much in our community's ability to come together for Misha.]
