In August of 2020, Tyler Surges (USD Class of ’22 and Marmion Academy ’18) was preparing to return to San Diego for the Fall semester when he was involved in an accident that left him with a fractured skull and Traumatic Brain Injury. After a week in the ICU while in a drug-induced coma, he was moved to the Neurological Support Unit. In the weeks since, Tyler has been undergoing intensive cognitive and physical therapy that will continue for the next 6-12 months. This type of specialized recovery is very expensive, and insurance only covers certain aspects of what his team recommends. The financial burden of medical care and associated costs (lost wages for his family who have become his caregivers, specialized therapy not covered, etc.) have created an unforeseen hardship. This doesn’t even address Tyler’s inability to work and therefore cover his education and expenses.

Tyler’s friends and DK brothers have sponsored this campaign with the approval of the Surges family. ALL proceeds will go to defray medical costs already incurred, future care, and ancillary costs.
