My name is Haley Elizondo. I am an active duty Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. I am also the aunt of two amazing young girls who have blessed my life beyond measure. Their happiness and well being is my focus in life. On December 10, 2016 my little sister Jasmin was a victim of domestic violence. Her boyfriend Brandon Humes remains in the Tarrant County Jail. My sister Jasmin, has 2 beautiful daughters, Kaylee (4) and Ariel (1). When my sister passed away, I decided that I would raise her girls and give them the best possible life without a doubt in my mind. I went through all the legal means necessary and brought them back home with me to California. I now have legal guardianship of my nieces through the state of California. The problem now is that the mother of the man my sister lost her life to is trying to gain custody of the youngest child. These girls have been through more than anything anyone should ever have to go through in the last 5 1/2 months. They lost not only their mother but their father too. The girls and myself have a bond like no other, and we all keep each other sane. They came to me with nothing but the clothes on their back & they now have a whole life here. They are getting a second chance at a family with my husband and I. They were so excited to help announce their "little brother" as I am expecting. They are extremely happy and are thriving in our home. I do not want them to be torn away from each other. I can't even begin to imagine how much pain and sorrow that would cause Kaylee and Ariel as they are extremely close to each other and they are the only thing left each other has from this horrible tragedy. I now need to hire a family law attorney to be able to keep both of our girls safe in my home. I am asking for anything that could help us go towards attorneys' fees, plane tickets, and other travel expenses as we, the girls and I, live in California and the custody is in Texas.
