To my friends and ColleaguesLet me introduce you to my Granddaughter , Madison Grace Jordan .Madi as we call her was born May 14, 2015. At 4 months old Madi was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. Retinoblastoma is a rare form of cancer that originates in the retina of the eye . There are only about 200-300 cases annually in the United States and generally all cases are with small children under the age of 6. Since her diagnosis , Madi has undergone several rounds of Chemotherapy , laser therapy, Intravitreal injections and Intra-arterial Chemo to try and kill the tumor or stop its growth . Every three weeks Madi and her family , my daughter Nicole and my Son in law Preston and their other daughter 3 year old Paisley make the trek from New Braunfels where they live to MD Anderson and Texas Children's for a couple of days. This last visit to MD Anderson on May 8 2017 brought more bad news . The tumor was growing and starting to spread. Madi is now scheduled to have Enucleation done ( removal of the eye). The hopes are that by removing the complete eye this will remove the cancer. Because of the type of cancer , she will still be required to come back to Houston every other month till the age of 5 for MRI's to make sure no new growths are starting . You can't say enough good things about the cancer research and facilities we have here in Houston . But with that also come a lot of expenses not covered by insurances . Let alone lost time from work , travel etc. That is why I am asking my friends and colleagues for their prayers for Madison as she continues to fight this terrible disease . But also, if you can to help the family with some of these expenses . I have started a Go Fund me Account for Madison . Even if you can't I appreciate your thoughts and prayers for Madi and her family as they continue this fight!
