Hi, I’m Cheri, the other-half to an amazing man named Carl. Carl was in an accident involving a hard-head salt water catfish, which are venomous. It’s pectoral fin and bone went through the top of his foot. After routine foot surgery and a nerve block to remove the barb in September, the function of his left leg never returned. After briefly feeling better and a large sense of relief, his condition worsened and he had a significant neurological event at home. He is currently hospitalized, while multiple experts and medical professionals perform consultations and testing to try and resolve 3 key problems. Neurological symptoms, lower left leg dysfunction and severe nerve pain, and left foot swelling with worsening circulation.

We are a two-parent, dual-income household who suddenly face serious uncertainty about our earning potential and complete uncertainty about the medical outcomes and bills in our future.

We are blessed to be surrounded by friends and family, who have come forward and shared personal stories of trauma and how important getting ahead of a situation like this is with a platform like GoFundMe. We have been urged by others to share this story, and to allow people who want to give a platform and a place to help support. If you know, Carl, then you know that he is absolutely unstoppable and determined in anything that he pursues. Work, sports, fishing, fatherhood and family. I have zero doubts that once we begin to receive answers about his diagnoses and direction on healing he will continue with a relentless pursuit of regaining full function. Probably striving to be even better than before .

We don’t know what we’re up against and many things seem shaky and unsure. But what is unshakable is our connection as a family, our love for our ohana and our commitment to getting our real-life hero back home with us and rehabbed.
