Legacy Women is an all-women's drum and song ensemble dedicated to creating safe spaces for women to embrace their Afro-Indigenous ancestry, explore spirit and African-derived roots drum music in order to share their vision and gifts for themselves and the world around them.

We are the first all-womens palo drum group in New York City, and we are taking our very first trip to Dominincan Republic to feed our thirst for our ancestral tradition. We will study with the master teachers and educators of roots music in Villa Mella, San Pedro, San Cristobal, Barahona, and more, and we hope you will help make our return to our roots possible!

Please consider donating any amount. The monies we raise will pay for instruction time with the most knowledgeable teachers and practitioners of palos, congos, salves, gaga, and guloya traditions. Often these are the teachers and practices that have been most discriminated and marginalized in D.R. Our studying and donations will help foster international solidarity with these communities who have helped provide the music that has helped us heal and strengthen our communities in healing circles, social justice events, and spiritual celebrations. Monies will also aid us in having transportation to go to various communities to also give back! Half of our group are social justice/cultural arts educators, and we plan on delivering a variety of drum and dance workshops in Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba in order to encourage pan-caribbean solidarity and Afro-Caribbean cultural connections.
