I cannot believe my good fortune, but the fabulous people at Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center have seen fit to gift me, for the 3rd year running, with a scholarship to a creative nonfiction writing workshop. So here I am, dear friends, struggling to feel that I deserve it, and asking for your help by subsidizing my lodging, gas, and food; the scholarship is for the event only. My disability income is unfortunately insufficient for travel, and my health prevents me from working.
I am scheduled for 5 days, June 30 - July 5 2019, with the wonderful Susanna Sonnenburg.https://web.fawc.org/summer-program/fighting-ego-how-get-real-memoir I have heard her read her work at FAWC several times now and have a deep admiration for what she does.
“How To Get Real” seems very pertinent to where I am now. Some of you know that I have been trying to wrestle this story to the ground for several years, and it keeps slithering out of my grasp. Though I have not succeeded in getting anything published since last summer, I continue to write and submit poetry and essays online. I am still plugging away at a memoir about Dreaming, and have recently returned from three weeks alone in the woods, where I made fair progress. I have also, during the last year, rewritten my Dreamer's Art presentation (seminar and slideshow of my artwork) and presented it at the TLAN Conference at Goddard College, and at two other venues. As we speak I am writing a poem a day for Poetry Month. So, I persist. I have gained insight, encouragement, and impetus from the writing program opportunities so generously given in the past. Being stimulated by new faces, learning from experts, and being confronted by entirely different approaches is a joy and a blessing. Not to mention the glorious environment, out there on the edge of the continent.
It seems a lot to ask. But any contribution, no matter how small, will help. Thanks again a hundred times and more, to those of you who contributed last year - and the year before! I love you, every one. You sustain me, and keep hope alive.
