Welcome, earthlings! We are a class of twenty 3rd graders at Andrew Jackson School, soon to likely be Fanny Jackson Coppin School. (Have you heard about our school name change ?) At the beginning of the school year, we observed our community and shared what we love, and also what we wanted to change about it. After studying lots of issues, we narrowed it down to three: animal welfare, homelessness, and racism. At our Big Debate, we came to a compromise on the topic: Fairness to All Living Beings. After more months of study, we decided to create an illustration and a writing piece to share our perspective of what a just world would look like and how you can help be an advocate, too.
As you can see from our writing pieces on our website , the scholars of Room 205 advocate for fairness. Why? Because kids can also make a change. Yes, we can move the world! One way we can do that is by supporting Hand2Paw. Hand2Paw is an organization that combines racism, animal abuse, and homelessness and smashes it to pieces! They help young people that live through incarceration, poverty, homelessness, and other hardships find animals to care for. According to Hand2Paw's mission statement, “Hand2Paw's mission is to provide job training to young adults in need while enhancing resilience, compassion, and connection with people, animals and the community. Hand2Paw serves young adults by providing them with an internship where they can earn income, enrich life and work skills that will guide their future employment, and heal from the trauma and injustice they have experienced in their lives."
