Recovering from Ida

Hello all,

My name is Denisse Rodriguez. On September 1st, 2021, Tropical storm Ida caused significant damage to our family home. Our ceiling on the second floor had previous damage due to animals nesting underneath our solar panels and creating a very large hole that needed to be repaired since the beginning of July. Subsequently, my family and I have made a claim to both our home owners insurance and the solar panel company (SunRun Solar) to assess the damage and fix the roof immediately. However, SunRun has stated that they are not responsible to repair the roof due to the solar panel not having any animal guards. It should be noted that half of our roof has animal guards, however the other half does not. We have requested the contract multiple times to confirm that the request for all solar panels to have animal guards was confirmed, however, we continue to get the run around and have yet to receive said contract. In turn, we have been advised by the solar company that should we have to fix our roof with a roofing contractor, we will have to pay $100+ per section to remove and then possibly pay to have the solar panels reinstalled. Should anyone else attempt to remove the panels, they have threatened to charge us $11,000 per panel that was removed without their consent .

Unfortunately , due to the storm on the first , my family and I have been dealt with a significant amount of water damage due to the water pouring in through the second floor roof and windows , and pouring into the first floor and basement. Our first floors ceiling collapsed due to the amount of water coming into the home and in turn pored into our basement causing over a foot of flooding. The fire department came to our home to shut off the electricity due to the amount of water coming into the home. No matter how much we tried to get rid of the water and work together diligently to remove the water from our home, we could not save our home from the significant damage caused. There are so many personal items that have been damaged that are very important to our family.

My father has worked so hard to provide for our family. He has suffered a great loss financially attempting to take care of the situation at hand immediately and has been ignored since July. This is a request for financial help to secure an attorney and also to help repair the damaged immediately as we fear that should another storm cause more damage, we will have to evacuate the home due to safety issues. We greatly appreciate and love everyone willing to help with whatever donation you can!
