After three years, a kind donor family made the difficult decision to donate their loved ones organs. Larry received the donors kidney, suddenly, after waiting over three years. Through years of three times weekly dialysis treatments, Larrys health was deteriorating and heart failure had set in. As many of you may know, Larry was born with genetic polycystic kidney disease, a genetic disease with no known cure or treatment and I became his first living donor in 2000, an organ he kept for 13 and a half years. Even still, through the years of waiting Larry never gave up hope that he would get a new kidney. Now, however, his medical costs are beginning to come in and we decided to create a fundraiser to help Larry offset his medication and clinic visit copays. Immunosuppressive medications are some of the most expensive medications on the market, yet they perform the vital function of suppressing his immune system so his body doesn't recognize the new kidney as foreign. He will need these expensive, yet, vital medicines for the rest of his life . Additionally, his treatment plan calls for weekly visits to see a battery of transplant physicians each week at Unc and labs three times a week placing a tremendous financial burden on him at this time. With a successful kidney transplant, Larry will be so much healthier. His heart failure will slowly heal and his body and appetite will return to normal. Please donate and help Bless the success of Larrys kidney transplant. All help is appreciated so much.Sincerely,Phyllis Bryant (Living Donor 12/1/2000)
