Hi! I want to tell you all a story about a girl named Sharon. How do I begin? Sharon is an amazing spirit. When she walks in a room, it is with purpose and focus and often times that purpose is to do for others, selflessly. I work with Sharon, and the guests that she come in contact with adore her.
Sharon was very close to her mother. That simple kind of mother/daughter love that we all know. A few years ago, Sharon lost her mother. The only parent that Sharon called family was taken from her and the rug pulled out from beneath her. Staying strong, she graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2015. All in all, Sharon never let her moms illness or passing get her down. She's a strong, independent person who strives to make the world better for everyone, in spite of life's challenges.
Last week, I got a call from Sharon asking me to go meet her at the hospital. I arrived and apparently, in some freak accident a dog bit her in the mouth, separating both her top and bottom lip. It was a horrible sight. All she has ever wanted was to have a smile that warmed the hearts of others. It was the smile that her mother worked so hard to give her in this lifetime. A gift to remember her by. It was taken away in an instance.
Sharon, being a recent college graduate doesn't have insurance because of new government stipulations as well as the extremely high costs, is faced with the realization that her smile is too expensive for her to be able to pay for to get it back to where it is. She hides in her apartment, embarrassed and ashamed. She even text me that she was ugly. Nobody, who gives as much as she does should have to feel this way. Her smile, she doesn't realize, is our gift as well. It is a sure sign of the love and warmth we get from Sharon, time and time again.
Lastly, she has been given a 30 day notice to move due to building renovation at her apartment. Sharon needs our help. How many times has she been there to cheer us up when we are down in the dumps, throws a party in our name, volunteers in this tough world, lends a shoulder or just is who she is and doesn't ever judge any single one of us for our shortcomings. She faces it all with a smile. Sharon's Smile. Please help and give today. It is the least we can do to help our friend. God bless you all and thanks for your gift.
