Steve's Heart and Cancer Journey
Hi, I'm Angela Etheridge Copeland. I have prayerfully set up this Go Fund Me Account to help Steve and Kim Baker. They are so loved by so many!
In December 2016, Steve, who has always been very healthy, noticed a pattern of extreme fatigue. After days of going to bed tired and waking up not feeling rested Steve was seen by his family doctor and this when the journey began. Many tests were ordered, blood work, testosterone testing, sleep apnea study among others, all results of these were normal. Not long after, he began experiencing burning in his chest even with very little exertion. More tests were ordered to include Cardiac bloodwork, heart ultrasound and nuclear stress test. All results were abnormal and Steve would require more medical testing. Steve was referred to a cardiologist for further evaluation. A cath was ordered and 4 blockages were found, Steve was scheduled for open heart surgery on April 6th. The plan was he would have one bypass and three stents. During surgery it was discovered he would need three bypasses. Surgery went well, however due to a few issues Steve stayed in the ICU a few days longer than expected. Once discharged, he began his recovery at home under the watchful care of home health and his wife of 35 years, Kim. Recovery was going well however, about a week and half after returning home Steve was in a great deal of pain and unable to have a bowel movement. Steve would eventually go to the local ER and be transferred via ambulance to Springhill Hospital in Mobile. His pain continued to increase and after further testing the medical team found a collapsed colon and colon cancer. Surgery was performed on April 26th the cancer was removed successfully, the tumor in Steve’s colon was Stage 2 Colonic Adenocarcinoma. The cancer had spread to one lymph node and will require further treatment to include chemotherapy. As of today Steve is still in the hospital focusing on getting his strength back so he is able to go home again, fully recover and get back to enjoying life. The road to recovery will not be an easy one as he has a long way to go but everyone is confident he will succeed! Steve will be out of work at least 8 more weeks barring no complications, this will be very difficult physically, emotionally and financially on Steve and his wife Kim. Steve is a very loving husband, his wife, kids and grandkids are his world. Everyone who knows Steve is aware that he has always been a hardworking man and takes great care of his family. Steve and Kim are soulmates and now they need our help. This is where you come in! We ask that you consider making a donation to this Go Fund Me account for Steve and Kim so they will not have the added stress of “Finances”. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
