The above picture was taken a few years ago. The little boy in the picture is my son, and the man in this picture is my Dad, Paul. He has always been the one constant in my life. He has also been a hair stylist at BoRics for many years. He met many people along the way, made many friends, and touched a lot of lives. Everyone has always loved my Dad.
Last year, he began having trouble swallowing, and was rapidly losing weight. Then, in April of 2014, my Dad was diagnosed with esophegeal adenocarcinoma. He courageously underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and finally, he had surgery to remove the tumor. The surgery was successful, but then in June of this year, they discovered that the cancer had returned. He was diagnosed as stage four and his prognosis was rather grim. He chose to attempt a second round of chemotherapy, but recently, when he was hospitalized with shingles, his doctor discovered that his body could no longer handle the treatments and that it would be best to discontinue chemo and to enter hospice. Sadly, he does not have much time left.
He is now at home with me, my husband and our family, and we are doing everything in our power to make the best of the time he has left with us. He has a couple small wishes that we would love to make a reality. First, he would like to be able to attend a Red Wings hockey game in Detroit, and he would like to visit The Rock -N- Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. Unfortunately, due to added living expenses and medical expenses, our budget is much tighter, and I am worried that we will miss out on being able to make these final family trips together.
It would mean so much to him and the rest of the family if we could make this a reality for him. I would love for my son and the rest of us to have a chance to make some lasting, happy memories with him. Please, please, help me make this happen for my Dad.
