Carl Moore
Brother, Father, Husband, Grandfather.... a quiet, respectful and courageous man.  This is the story of our father, “Carly”.
Daddy is the middle child of seven, reserved and even-tempered, his personality sometimes overshadowed by his siblings.  He is acutely attuned to the needs of others and is fiercely dedicated and loyal to his family.

Together with our mother, Jemma, a former teacher at Dunross for 36 years, he built our strong family unit based on an unwavering faith and unconditional love. Daddy and his “Jems”, the love of his life - herself  a cancer survivor

Always a hard worker, never complaining, a man who truly understands the word ‘sacrifice’...all for us, his family.
Now it’s our turn to give back to him, to return that unconditional love and help our Dad to fight for his life.
Our father has had a challenging and complicated health journey, starting with open heart surgery in 2001 to replace a damaged mitral valve.  Shortly after this, he suffered his first stroke which left him with some permanent weakness on his left side.  Unfortunately this was just the first in a series of strokes, all requiring frequent hospitalization and extensive therapy.
Daddy quietly and bravely underwent the constant testing, poking and prodding, the numerous treatments and procedures without complaint.  Friends and family would always remark on how “well he looked”...our own real-life hero.
His health, while challenged, was somewhat under control until April 2014 when some ruthless home invaders attacked him viciously at home.  His injuries were so serious that he had to undergo brain surgery, and while this was a huge trauma for both Daddy and the family, his spirit never weakened.  Since that horrendous attack, Daddy has difficulty with some tasks that we take for granted, speech and motor control etc..  He has had two more successful procedures since then, each operation bringing its own challenges, due to the level of anticoagulation needed to be maintained for his prosthetic heart valve.
Throughout all these medical challenges, we supported Daddy as best as we could. His family rallied around him and we drew strength from his will to live. Unfortunately, we need more than just our strength now and have to reach out to friends and family for help.
There is no longer any health coverage - this being abruptly terminated last year. Any savings have been depleted and, due to COVID-19, we are all faced with an uncertain future as we are both self-employed in a hard-hit sector.

Daddy has been diagnosed with bladder cancer and requires surgery to remove the tumors, with the likelihood of chemotherapy and radiation to follow.  While doing his cardiac assessment in preparation for the surgery, we were advised that he also needs a pacemaker. This will be addressed after the immediate procedure on his bladder.
As always, our father faces these new challenges with faith and quiet acceptance.  This inspires us to do whatever we can to make these surgeries happen.
Due to his medical complications, along with the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the public health sector, we have been advised to seek help from a private institution, which is, of course, at quite an exorbitant cost.
We realize that these are trying times for everyone and we are all watching our financial situations very carefully.  However, a donation of any amount will be appreciated greatly to help with the two procedures and Daddy’s ongoing medical bills.
Please help us to help our father who has never asked anything of anyone in his life and so deserves this chance at a better, healthier life.
We are asking you to share this page and donate.
Local donations may be deposited/transferred to Republic Bank Limited, chequing account #440451334901 in name of Carl and Jemma Moore.
Nicky and I thank you. Stay well.
