On Monday 6/16/25, our home caught fire in the basement, although we were home at the time and traumatized by the event, we are all unharmed and safe. The smoke damage made the house uninhabitable. Our possessions will need professional cleaning or to be replaced. The legal ownership of the house is in my mom's name and so, although I paid everything (taxes, utilities, ect) while waiting for the trust to be settled so it would include my name, we were basically glorified renters with no renters insurance.

This has left us houseless, devastated and currently paying for a motel while living out of plastic tubs of a few belongings.

My two adult kids, our cat Walter and I are searching for an apartment and will need to pay fees, and down payment, as well as some sort of sleeping situation (mattresses, ect) because everything is destroyed by smoke.

We are currently living off of a small amount of our only savings (to pay for motel and expenses related to transitional housing)

The grief of everything we have lost in the last week is unbelievable.

This is a hard time for everyone out there, but if you are in a position to help, we could sure use it right now.
