PROTOCOL Captain Alex

Donation protected
I’m Brandi Rogers, the wife of Alex Rogers that owned the Protocol. On July 18th, our worst nightmare began with a mayday call made by Alex at 10:30 am. His boat, the Protocol took on water from within and caused it to sink very quickly. There were a total of 6 people on board including the Captain Rogers.

At around 3:30 PST, I received the call that the Protocol had sunk. Instead of panicking, I went into rescue mission mode calling anyone and everyone I knew that had a plane, boat or helicopter.

I got in touch with the US Coast Guard and US Consulate which they then put in the call to the Mexican Navy.

At this time, I received a call from one of the Captain of Overtime letting me know that the Cabo San Lucas Marina Port Captain closed the port at 1pm due to a hurricane and they were not letting any boats out, even to rescue 6 people lost at sea. I then called the Port Captain to explain the situation and that it would be in his best interest to open that port. He agreed and starting allowing boats to head out. With the help of the Cabo Fishing Community, there were a total of 10 boats and at least 3-6 people on each boat out searching. We hired a helicopter and a plane to set out the search.
Finally, the Mexican Navy decided to start searching.

At 7pm MST, the Mexican Navy called off the search due to night fall, even though they have night vision and there was still 1 hour left of daylight.
BUT, not the fishing community, they did not stop.

Around 10:30pm, Pancho on the HooRay, happened to be 10 miles north from where the initial call happened. It was then that Alex heard an engine and started flashing his flash light. At that moment, the navigation lights to the HooRay turned on and started heading their way. They were saved!! With the quick thinking of Captain Rogers deploying the life raft, all souls on board survived with zero injuries.

Unfortunately, the Protocol was headed down to 9000 feet. Unsavalvagable. 16 years of memories, dreams, bucket list goals…gone. It’s like we lost a family member.

With a $200k loan left to pay and over $70k in tackle and supplies on that boat, the loss will hit us very hard. We also plan to keep the employees of the Protocol employed so their families don’t suffer the hardship.

Asking for funds to help us with the blow is asking for a lot so your donation will not come with nothing in return.

The goal of this fundraiser is to get Alex back in the water as soon as possible and as his wife, I want to help him do that in any way that I can. I love this man and after almost losing his life in 2020 when his aorta tore and went into a 20 day coma, life is too short. I want him to live the rest of it in the way that makes him the happiest and that is to fish to make other peoples dreams come true.

Will you help me get Alex fishing again?
