URGENT UPDATE: "Doc" got out of the hospital yesterday (Monday) and learned that his car will be sold from impoundment if not redeemed by May 22. If we can raise a total of $2935 (including the $1245 already raised) by TOMORROW, Wednesday May 17, he can get the car back without incurring additional storage fees. Please help! It's both dangerous and discouraging for anyone with serious health problems to be without transportation. With gratitude, Susan B

This is about a guy who needs to get his car out of impoundment, for starters, but ultimately it's about using the power of community to battle the debilitating effects of depression and isolation. The emergency need is $1600 plus $75 PER DAY in storage fees, to restore our friend's sole means of transportation, at a desperate and disheartening time in his life.
We’ll let him tell the rest of the story in his own words, in an update. For now, here's a brief introduction. Writing under the pen name Elliot Mabeuse, beloved as "Doctor M," our brilliant, funny, kind-hearted friend Gregg Elliot Robinson has spent years fighting a life-threatening depression, using every means his doctors recommended: meds, ECT treatments, talk therapy, hospitalization. To complicate things further, Gregg’s diabetes caused a bone infection last year that came close to requiring amputation.
Gregg is an award-winning novelist and former chemist, currently unable to work because of mental illness. He's doing his best to believe in the future. Losing his car has been a nasty blow. His home is in foreclosure. Please help. With every day that passes, storage fees on Gregg’s impounded vehicle make the goal less achievable.
