Help with medical and personal expenses

Hello everyone. The family of Ronnie and Sheila Unger are requesting your help and assistance during this difficult time.

Earlier this week Ronnie started not feeling well. We thought he was just coming down with the flu, by Wednesday he had progressed to far worse then flu symptoms. He was beginning to be paralyzed in his right leg and could not walk without assistance, throwing up, fever and chills. My mom took him to a walk in clinic and once she told the receptionist/nurse his symptoms, they advised that he should go to Lake Regional Hospital. Once they there they ran several tests on him including two different covid test which were negative. They gave him a bag of IV fluid and stated all the other tests were normal with the exception of his sodium level being a little low. At that time they sent him home. By Thursday he lost all movement in his legs and his right arm. He could not even sit up on the couch without someone holding him up. We finally convinced Ronnie it was time to go back to the hospital since he was getting worse. The last 24 hrs have been the scariest time of our lives not knowing what was going on and causing all these problems.

Today Friday July 23, 2021 we have some answers as to what is wrong and it is going to be an extremely long recovery. They diagnosed him with Guillain Barre Syndrome. Which is a condition in which the immune system attacks the nerves. The condition maybe triggered by an acute bacterial or viral infection. It can quickly spread and eventually paralyze your whole body. Please google the syndrome for more information. They did a spinal tap this afternoon and this evening they got him hooked up for plasma treatments. Right now we are looking at him being hospitalized for at least two weeks while having plasma treatments every other day. This time is really critical and he will be and has been fighting for his life. His future is unknown right now.

The doctors stated the recovery is at least 6 months. He will have to relearn how to walk and regain strength.

Ronnie will not be able to work for quite sometime. My mom will also be out of work while he is in critical condition. We are asking for donations for medical expenses, travel expenses, hotel expenses (if needed) and any household bill's that come due during this difficult time.
