I can hardly believe I'm writing this post. Yesterday my sweet sister, Olivia Jenkins, who is 6 months pregnant with her second baby, was diagnosed with breast cancer despite having a clean scan in April. Which means this is an aggressive and fast growing cancer.
We are all in shock. You may recall that a little over two years ago, I posted a GoFundMe for my sister Stephanie after her breast cancer diagnosis. Thankfully Stephanie is now in remission. Her diagnosis was a catalyst for our whole family to get up-to-date on our regular health screenings. But now, in spite of it all, we are again facing a frightening diagnosis. It feels so unfair and so scary in this moment. But I also know that Olivia is strong and brave and has so many people who love her and will support her through this.
Olivia has more appointments in the next few days which will clarify her treatment plan. The bottom line is that she and her precious family will need our help in the coming months. Olivia's husband Johnny has insurance but we already know that the deductibles and co-pays are going to be beyond their means to handle, especially with a new baby on the way. We want to help ease the financial burden so that Olivia and Johnny can focus on their son River and his baby brother and on Olivia's upcoming fight to beat this cancer so she can be here to raise her boys.
Please share this with as many people as you can and if you are able, donate. We are grateful for every share and every dollar.
Olivia's good friend Amanda has also organized a Meal Train. If you would like to provide a meal you can sign up using this link: https://mealtrain.com/gdq7ol
We will share updates as we know more details.
P.S. If you are a person with breasts - please get your genetic testing done, schedule your next mammogram, and do your self-exams EVERY month! I have heard from multiple sources that breast cancer diagnoses are on the rise in younger women. Olivia is 37. Steph was 37 when she got her diagnosis. Early detection saves lives!
