Dance program for autistic youth
We are a non-profit with the mission of getting high-functioning
autistic children moving! The obesity rates in children are stunning
and are more increased in children on the autism spectrum. We are
designing a curriculum that will teach ballroom dance to children with
Asperger's syndrome or high-functioning autism. Ballroom dance is a fun
activity that gets people moving and can be a safe place to practice
social skills like eye contact and having a conversation.
Our plan is to implement Dance Dynamics, an 8-week program that teaches two different dances (rumba and foxtrot, for example) to a group of 8 children. There will be a cost to employ a teacher for those 8 weeks (typically charges per head in the class).
Our hope at The Children's Foundation is to be able to test our curriculum and fine-tune it so other organizations can begin offering this innovative therapy!
