Aloha. On behalf of the Fernandez 'Ohana, and our dear classmate Kamalu, We, the Hana High and Elementary School's Class of 2009 have started a fundraising campaign. In efforts to help the family with medical expenses.
"See his story below."
Aloha my name is Graciano KEHOPU Fernandez, I am 43 years old and I have been a resident of Hana my whole life. I am married to Nancy Fernandez and I have a son Kamalu Fernandez. I have been hospitalized for 2 months at Maui Memorial Hospital and then later transferred to Straub Hospital on Oahu for a second option. Unfortunately, it didn't go the way I planned and I was able to fly back home to Hana. I was diagnosed with Kidney Failure 2 months ago and started Dialysis but, this was just the beginning for me. About a week later I was then diagnosed with CALCIPHILAXIS which is a syndrome of calcification of the blood vessels, blood clots and skin necrosis. This disease is seen in patients with stage 5 chronic kidney disease. It results in chronic NON-HEALING WOUNDS, VERY PAINFUL and usually FATAL. This disease is RARE and very serious it is believed to affect only 14% of all dialysis patients. This has been a struggle for me and my family but, I AM SO THANKFUL AND BLESSED TO COME FROM A GREAT COMMUNITY SUCH AS OURS. With the request of my son's CLASS OF "2009" this is my story. THANK YOU HANA FOR LOVING ME AND MY FAMILY~I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!
