I’ll never forget! The call came at 1:30 in the morning, my first indication that this was serious. It was my youngest son, Marcus. While walking home from the 24 hr. Safeway he was attacked, just random violence. He didn’t know the guys and they didn’t say anything as they beat him with the pipes and bottles. His leg was broken, his eye black and his tooth was chipped. I arrived at the hospital to my 32 year old child begging for pain medication. The nurse made a comment that he’s had a lot of pain medication for a broken leg. Turns out the broken leg was a torn ACL, MCL, PCL and damaged femoral artery and yes, I confirmed that’s why he was in so much pain. After three surgeries, Marcus was told that the leg could not be saved and had to be amputated.
I thank God that the attackers had pipes and bottles not guns and knives; the outcome could have been very different. Here we are nearly six month later, a total of 5 surgeries and over 2K just in medicine. The Dr. signed off on Marc receiving a handicapped parking hanger; however he has been denied disability because he has not been out of work for 12 months due to his injury. That was a crushing blow as we expected disability insurance to cover a major portion of the cost of the prosthetic limb. He was advised to apply for Obamacare but once again was turned away as he currently has no income. Marcus is young and in good health so he is expected to return to work approximately three weeks after getting the prosthetic.
In order for Marcus to move forward we need your help. First we need your prayers for Marcus to stay positive and continue moving forward: Second please donate if you can. Third please share his story and be on alert because random violence can happen to anyone even you.
Thanks you for reading Marc’s story,
