Saving Franklin

Greetings, My name is Laurie Carlson. At the end of July 2023 while scrolling through facebook I saw a very sickly bulldog that had been picked up off the streets by animal control. It was very apparent he had multiple health issues. My heart instantly fell in love with him. When animal control opened the next morning I called to get information. There was a bit of complications adopting him as his health issues prevented him from getting neutered safely which is a legal requirement for shelters in this area. When it was confirmed that we were getting Franklin, I immediately contacted care credit to increase my borrowing limit. I was confident I would be able to cover his medical bills. Unfortunately I severely underestimated his health problems.

Franklin has a horde of very expensive health issues.

Franklin has Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS) which is extremely expensive to surgically correct. He has double entropion eyelids. Meaning the eyelids of both eyes roll inwards and irritate the surface of the eye. This is also corrected by surgery.

He has severe dental issues. Rotting and broken teeth. And a severely deformed jaw.

We tackled the immediate life threatening issues first. He was as you can see in the picture extremely sick. With treatment over the past few months we were able to get his breathing much better. However we can not clear up his sinus infection. Recently we ran a culture sensitivity test to find out what antibiotics will be most effective at killing the bacteria and it has improved a lot. We suspect that the dental issues may be what’s causing the infection to reoccur. So he has an appointment with a dental specialist upcoming. Trying to clear up this upper respiratory infection has eaten through $3,000 and we are down to $3,000 left which might cover his upcoming imaging. We desperately need funds to help Franklin.

He has to see a specialist because of his deformed jaw and complications with anesthesia. Putting him under is extremely risky and I want to make sure he has the best chance.
