In early January, two Betas at Texas A&M lost their 16-year-old brother via suicide as a result of on-going bullying and harassment. His name was David Bartlett Molak (far left in attached picture). His older brothers, Cliff ’14 and Chris ’17 have been actively working to push new anti-bullying laws in the Texas Legislature. In order to support the cause, the Epsilon Eta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi is dedicating its philanthropic focus to combat bullying, and more specifically cyberbullying. This event is an opportunity for the Aggie community to step up and ensure that David’s tragic death caused by horrific pain does not go unnoticed.
As a fraternity, we are proud to present Beta DBM Fest (DBM represents “Don’t Bully Me” as well as David’s initials.) Beta DBM Fest will take place on April 9th at Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater in College Station. The date also falls on A&M parent’s weekend so this is the perfect opportunity to present an example of how the spirit of the Aggie Greek community can speak volumes to society.
Some of what DBM Fest entails is live music from popular Country recording artists, a silent auction and a multitude of recreational activities fit for the whole family. The proceeds from this event will go towards David’s Legacy Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to raise awareness of cyber-abuse, to protect today’s youth from the harmful effects of improper social media behavior, and to aid in implementing David’s Law into Texas Legislation. In the last month since David’s passing, the San Antonio community has shown tremendous support in promoting David’s Legacy by raising awareness of the harmful effects of cyberbullying. As a part of David’s Legacy, Texas Senator Jose Menendez and State Representative Ina Minjarez, are currently working to pass David’s Law in the 2017 Texas legislative session. Please see below a copy of the viral Facebook post authored by Chris and Cliff, which inspired the movement behind David’s Law.
If the story of David’s senseless death and the loving family left to mourn has moved you in any way, please show your support by donating money in this gofundme. Proceeds will go directly into the funding of the DBM Fest. Thanks!
