Hello, thank you for taking the time to read this. This fundraiser is for my niece Sophie. She is a the sweetest 19 year old college student. She has been living in Hawaii going to college. On Sunday July 11th she went to the Er with blood in her stool and bloating. The specialist she saw the next day said it was a huge cancerous tumor and needed to be removed. The Wednesday after that she had surgery, It was a teratoma tumor easily the size of a cantaloupe. They flew to Washington on Monday Aug 2nd (her mom -my sister, Courtney had flown to Hawaii to be with her) and today they met with the doctors at the Cancer center in Poulsbo where they finally received the official diagnosis of stage 3 ovarian cancer. They will meet with another specialist next week to find out about treatment. I started this for them because the costs are already starting to add up for them as a family. Courtney also received a letter from the insurance company stating that Sophie’s surgery in Hawaii wasn’t covered. In addition to the travel and hotel stays they have already had, both Courtney and Sophie will be out of work (or at least for Courtney very reduced hours) as she cares for Soph.
