This is the heart-wrenching and inspiring story of my dear friend and San Diego Police Detective Art Calvert, single father of 2 teenagers, former minor league baseball player for the Yankees, and beloved friend . He is a humble man who has braved incapacitating renal disease and kidney failure for many years including being on daily 10-hour dialysis for the last 4 years, 14 blood transfusions, etc. Through it all Art has kept his faith, his head up and his hope intact.
Prayers were answered 30 days ago with the incredible and selfless gift of a kidney donation by retired San Diego Police Sgt. Patrick Vinson. Patrick and Art are recovering from their surgeries and now Art’s friends are focused on helping him get back on his feet financially. Without his police salary for the last four years, Art has struggled to provide for his kids, relying on loans from family, keeping his difficulties private. Only recently have his closest friends learned about this so we’ve banded together on this fundraising campaign for an incredible man who has a new kidney, a new lease on life but, as you can imagine, a mountain of bills.
Art has served our community for 25 years as a police officer, a dangerous, often thankless but essential job to protect all of us and our families. In honor of Art and Patrick’s service, in celebration of Patrick’s selfless example and in support of Art’s recuperation and two children who need their father back, would you please consider making a donation of any amount now?
