My Name is Douglas Bundy
I’m a Stage 5 kidney failure patient. I’m doing home care (PD) dialysis and have been doing my home treatments for the last 3 years. My treatment schedule includes 11.5 hours of dialysis each day starting at bedtime. I take 7 different medicines to combat my illness. I see my doctor one day each month unless something goes wrong and I have regular visits at my kidney medical facility to keep track of my vitals. My doctor is part of the Davita Kidney Clinic here in Santa Monica, California. I have been accepted into the UCLA Medical Center donor list to receive a kidney transplant but it can take up to seven years to receive that transplant, which is not guaranteed. I am staying hopeful and strictly following my doctor’s directions while waiting for the possibility of that call from the hospital that will save my life. Since I became ill back in 2016 I have not been able to work. My income consists only of monthly payments from Social Security Disability and the occasional help from family and friends. I have Medicare and Medi-Cal insurance, but my medical expenses far exceed the limits of these two coverage's not to mention my living expenses on top of this. I am taking advantage of a local Meals-on-Wheels charity for some of my food, which I am so thankful is made available to me. I am asking for financial help to get me through my daily activities and for money to be able to fly to possibly three unknown transplant surgery locations nationwide. The transplant notification from my doctor can happen at any time and I need to be ready to take off at a moment’s notice. For the time being I am barely getting by on my Social Security Disability, but there is never enough to cover my daily expenses or my medical bills. I am trying to hang in there and praying to receive my transplant soon so I can get back to life I once had. I’m asking if you can help and if you can I want to thank you in advance.
