Santa Monica Police Officers responded to a burglary in progress last night in the city of Santa Monica.  The suspects were being pursued when police vehicles were involved in a major collision.  Officer Mora and Zeigler were found unconscious within the wreckage and rushed to UCLA Westwood. Officer Zeigler sustained a broken ankle and at least a concussion but is expected to make a full recovery. Officer Mora sustained serious injuries to his cervical spine for which he is in surgery now (at the time of this posting).  His recovery is expected to be long and arduous and it is unknown how this injury will impact his future.

Officer Mora is in his 20th year of service to the community.  He is a long standing member of the departments Crime Impact Team and SWAT Team. Additionally, he is a bonafide family member of Krav Maga Worldwide where he has forged relationships with hundreds of community members. Officer Zeigler  is a brand new officer with a bright and promising future ahead of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with our brother’s at this time.
