Hello family, friends, and loved ones. This fundraiser is being started on behalf of my mother, Vernetta (Duckworth) Thomas. She is a mother of 3 adult children, and has 8 grandchildren, and she loves the Lord.
She is a patient under the care of the doctors at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She has always helped others in any way possible, and always helps in any capacity necessary at her church.
Mom was diagnosed with cancer--leukemia (APL) in May 2016 and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments for the past 11 months, (her initial treatment was a 51-day stay as an in-patient at MD Anderson Cancer Center). She is still in treatment, and will continue these treatments for the next 1-1/2 years. Even though the prognosis is favorable, the remaining care and treatments have been costly.
The medical bills, along with daily living expenses have increased tremendously, and because Mom does not know when she will be able to return to the workforce, due to fatigue, balance, and other medical issues related to the disease, her ability to support herself financially has been radically and drastically interrupted. She’s not been able to work in over 11 months since her diagnosis because the chemo treatments take half a day to administer. After she gets back at home the chemo makes her tired, so the only thing she can do is to take a nap to recover from the exhaustion.
