Many of you have already been following Kira’s story on Facebook. In a nutshell, Kira is my beautiful 10 month old golden retriever puppy. In September, she was very poorly, and was diagnosed with an auto immune condition that was attacking her joints. As a result of this, she was put on steroids and Ciclosporin to suppress her immune system. She was making good progress until 2 weeks ago, when she developed an infection in her front foot. Ordinarily, this would not be a problem, but because she’s immuno suppressed, the infection has completely taken hold, and she is now at risk of amputation. We had £12, 500 of cover through her pet insurance, but we now only have £2,000 left, and she has just been re admitted to the referral vets Anderson Moores. The estimated bill is up to £6,000, but will be considerably more if she ultimately needs an amputation. If things don’t turn around in the next 48 hours, I have to make the decision to proceed with amputation or to put her to sleep.
Kira is one of those dogs that gets into your heart. I bred her and delivered her, and the prospect of losing this extra special girl is completely unbearable. Her life would not be what I would have wished for her, but she would still have a life, albeit with a prosthetic limb.
if anyone is moved by Kira’s story, the smallest donation could make all the difference.
