Hello family and friends; Tony took a tumble on the 4-wheeler on an unfamiliar path Tuesday evening May 17. He went to the emergency room via ambulance and sustained serious injuries to include broken collarbone ,4 broken ribs, fractured spine , fractured hip laceration to the liver causing internal bleeding, and punctured both lungs. He was moved to surgical ICU at 3:30 AM on Wednesday morning in case emergency surgeries were required. Everyone’s prayers are very much appreciated and they worked! The liver laceration clotted pretty quickly and with blood transfusions his blood pressure was brought back up to normal. The spinal fractures are on the ”wing tips” of the spine, so the disks and the spinal cord are intact. While in ICU he received an epidural in the higher back which numbs him from the chest to his belly button, a catheter, and a chest tube in the left lung for drainage. On Saturday, May 21, he was moved to a regular room at WakeMed main campus. Tomorrow Monday, May 23 the epidural will be removed and we will start with oral pain management. On May 25th he no longer could breathe on his own. He then was placed on a respirator, and moved back into SICU. They inserted a new drain tube too his lungs and fully sedated him for comfort. His white blood cell count has decreased hopefully signs of no infection. May 26th he is now back to breathing on his own with the respirator they’re going to gradually wing him off the respirator as he becomes stronger. Tony played a major roll in this family , dependent for financial needs. When he comes home he’ll be out of work for a good while so anything helps. Thanks again for everyone’s thoughts and prayers god bless.
