My friends and I will be taking part in a 5 mile tough mudder
challenge on the 23rd September 2017 in order to raise money for
Millie Garbutt. The purpose of this is to pay for private neuro
physiotherapy that Millie requires in order to help her fulfill her
dream of being able to walk again and to help her live the life of a
normal litle girl like she deserves.

On the 6th October 2015 Millie was taken to the doctors by her mother
Emma, Millie had been complaining of a headache which she had 2 days
previous and the doctors were unable to find a cause, she was
reccomended to attend the opticians where she visited on the 10th
October, it was found that Millie had swelling behind her eye and was
sent urgently to St George's Hospital for further examination.

Upon arrival Millie had an immediate CT scan which unfortunately
showed that she had an abnormality on her brain. From here onwards
Millie was admitted in hospital for further examination and
unfortunately it was discovered that Millie had a brain tumour, which
had attached itself onto the stem of her brain. Millie underwent a
grueling ten and a half hours of brain surgery to remove majority of
the tumour, however due to the tumour being attached to the stem of
her brain some of the tumour had to remain.

Sadly the procedure caused Millie to lose all ability on the left side
of her body and she had to undergo further surgery to place an Airway
Trachestomy into her throat, Millie was unable to breathe or eat
independently and consequently she also had to have a feeding tube
placed into her stomach. In the space of weeks Millie went from a very
normal and happy little girl with such a bright future ahead of her to
a girl whos life would never be the same again. From here it seemed
there was one thing after another, Millie had to undergo more brain
surgery. It seemed that all of the strain and damage her poor little
body had gone through, Millies brain fluid was not draining like it
should have and therefore a shunt needed to be fitted into hear head.
All in all Millie was admitted to St George's Hospital for six months
and was then admitted to the Children's Trust for a further nine
months.

In September 2016 Millie had her first MRI Scan after all of the
surgery that she had undertaken, it was here we discovered that the
brain tumour had grown once again. Millie then had to undergo a
special radiotherapy treatment which she was required to have everyday
for six weeks. With Christmas fast approaching we was told that Millie
would be able to return home in the new year, she was able to have her
oxygen and other equipment with her in the comfort of her home. Millie
returned home on the 14th January 2017, her mother Emma gave up on her
employment to care for her daughter 24/7 with the help of a day carer
and night nurse. Sadly, Millie is unable to be left alone at any point
due to her Tracheotomy.

We are now trying to raise as much money as we can so that Millie can
recieve private neuro physiotherapy treatment at The Portland
Hospital. This treatment is extremely expensive and after all that she
has been through this is the least that she deserves. We would love
nothing more than for Millie and her mums dream to be able to walk
along together, side by side to come true.
