We are 3rd Language: a chicago based art collective that highlights the work of queer identified folks through the production of publications, workshops and events. After four incredible years of dialogue, collaboration, and creation, we will be coming to a close in the upcoming months as our members move on to pursue other incredible projects. We want to go out with a bang by publishing an anthology of our work. This campaign is to fund the printing and production costs of a final anthology showcasing the evolution of 3rd language during our time working together.
Throughout our time as a collective, we have published 6 publications celebrating queer artists. Each publication began with a theme brainstormed and refined at 3rd Language meetings. Then, queer artists were encouraged to submit work relating to the theme via a public call for art. 3rd Language then curated submissions into each publication.
Our past publications were: The Shape of Uncertainty, Queer Utopias & Nihilism, Queer Lineage & Archive, Queer Lineage & Archive II (which contained work by our summer workshop participants), Never Satisfied, and Family Dinner (which contained work only by active 3L members). Our anthology will contain each of these issues, including our final publication that has yet to be published: Practice.
In order to best represent the wonderful work submitted to each publication, each issue is printed in full color. We believe this is necessary in order to do each issue justice, however, this type of printing is expensive! This GoFundMe campaign will allow us to print a large quantity of anthologies with excellent quality. We're shooting for a high goal to ensure that we not only get enough funding to print the anthologies, but so that any leftover funds can support the costs for an awesome release event and farewell party!
As always, we couldn’t have done it without the support of our community here in Chicago, and the artists and queers who have supported us from across the country and around the world. We love you all! And we look forward to the continued evolution of our artistic practices collaboratively and as individuals.www.3rdlanguage.com
