Keep Mason Moving

Mason was diagnosed with Duchenne MD two years ago. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed in childhood. The Duchenne gene is found on the X-chromosome so primarily affects boys. As the disease progresses, muscle tissue experiences wasting and is replaced by fat and fibrotic tissue (fibrosis). Most boys are wheelchair dependent by age 12. Later symptoms include abnormal bone development that leads to skeletal deformaties including severe curvature of the spine. Progeressive deterioration of muscle leads to eventual paralysis and death. With improved standards of care boys with Duchenne MD can live into their early twenties. There is currently no cure.
