Darren Beaver is 34 years old. He has a wife of 14 years and a 10 year old daughter. He enjoys the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and fellowship. He was diagnosed with Choroidal Melanoma cancer of the eye on Jan 4, 2018. He will undergo several scans on Thursday January 11th to determine if the cancer has metastasized to any other areas of his body. We would like to ask for everyones prayers that these scans come back negative. Currently, the doctor's plan for treatment is plaque brachytherapy, which consists of intensive radiation by means of a plate being surgically inserted behind his left eye, multiple surgeries and possibly removal of his left eye. The oncologist has told him that all treatment plans will result in the loss of vision in his left eye. If the cancer has metastasized, he will be up against more treatments that would be more invasive and long term. His road to recovery has created a financial burden on himself and his family as his expenses for surgery alone will be $11,000.00. He will also be out of work for a minimum of 3 weeks after having the radiation plate put in. The doctor has told them he will need assistance walking and with his balance during that time as well, so my sister will also be out of work for that time without her income. They will be having to make many trips back and forth to Greenville for his Ocular oncologist since he is the only one in the state who can treat Darren. As we all can imagine this will be difficult in many ways for them during this time and I want to help relieve some of their worries so they can focus on his recovery.
