Meet "Hope". She was found on the side of a busy highway in Dalton, GA on 1/17/16. She was freezing, starving, terrified, and worst of all, injured. Hope couldn't use her back legs at all. A friend posted her story on Facebook. I tried to do my part and share the post hoping someone else might help her out. After all, I already have 5 rescued pups of my own. Later that night, Hope was still heavy on my heart. I got barely any sleep worrying about her starving, cold, and hurt. The next morning my husband and I decided to do something about it. We went to where she was last seen and she was still there. She was scared to death and it took over an hour to gain her trust (with the help of some beef jerky). Finally, we were able to pick her up and transport her to our vet's office.

As we waited for the vet, we looked her over. She was 20 pounds underweight. She had deep scars around her neck from being tied up too tightly. She was covered in ticks.

We didn't know how badly her back legs were hurt, but she was obviously in pain. We hoped it might just be muscle weakness from starvation or a small fracture. The X-rays gave bad news, however. Unfortunately, both of Hope's rear legs were severely broken. This meant a referral to an orthopedic surgeon, two surgeries, possible amputation, a long recovery, and an estimate of over $5000 in vet bills. We were given a choice: Have Hope put to sleep or take on this burden. We had only known Hope for 2 hours when we faced that reality. I looked at her sedated on the X-ray table. If we euthanized her then, she wouldn't even know it. She would just drift off. Tears rolled down both of our faces. "Let's do it", I said. "Let's try to save her. Let's do the surgery. She deserves a chance". My husband whole-heartedly agreed. I just couldn't give up on this poor girl if there was anything I could do.

Hope was referred to an orthopedic surgeon in Buford, GA. She had her first surgery on the evening of 1/21. She is scheduled for a second surgery on 1/22. Hope was hit several weeks ago, therefore her bones have begun to set incorrectly. Her surgery requires re-breaking her legs and installing pins, screws, and plates. The specialist has given me an initial estimate of $6000. Her initial visit, pain medication, and X-rays were $494, so the total is at $6500. This is more than I can take on financially... But I refuse to give up on her. Even after being abused, starved, and forgotten, Hope is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. She winces when first touched, but then melts under a gentle scratch. She is a good dog. She deserves more than the hand she was dealt. She deserves to be happy and healthy.
She deserves HOPE.

Please join me in helping give hope to Hope! 100% of funds raised will go directly to Hope's surgical bills. I will list Hope's veterinarians' information below, if anyone would like verification. X-ray photos are shown below. I will post copies of the vet bills as I receive them.
